Oh, Sedona!
by
Barbara E. Foley

Oh, Sedona!
You burnt sienna goddess
of the desert, named
rightly for a woman

Who once walked your land
and nurtured those who
were drawn to her.

I saw the sunlight
play upon your curves,
and was cradled in
your umber lap.

Then I remembered:
I, too, am woman
and of the earth.

You sent me home
to share that remembrance
with others who,
like me, have forgotten

That we walk always
caressed by sacred ground,
ever secure in the
arms of Mother.

Inspired by my visit to Sedona, October 2004
